The government has decided to give leave two days a week. A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday decided to grant leave on Saturday and Sunday with effect from Jestha 1, a minister said.

The Oil Corporation had earlier proposed to give leave on Sunday saying that adding one day of leave in a year would reduce the loss of millions of rupees in fuel and also reduce the import of fuel.

In 2047 BS, the practice of two days leave per year was practiced in the court for some time, but in 2048 BS, the then Administration Reform Commission had recommended giving two days leave saying that the expenses could be reduced and administration would be easier.

As per the recommendation of the commission, the practice of giving leave two days a week from Kathmandu Valley was resumed in 2056 BS but it also failed. The situation of having to return to the old condition due to not coming up with full preparation despite repeated attempts to raise the issue and implement it had arisen a year ago, i.e. in Mangsir 2077 BS.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation had formed a committee to recommend public holidays twice a week and to encourage the private sector to do the same. This seems to benefit the family and the environment as well as fuel consumption.
